Audition Notice - 2027 Dance Artists

Footnote New Zealand Dance is seeking contemporary dance artists for a range of upcoming opportunities commencing in 2027.


Footnote commissions, creates and tours contemporary dance works that engage deeply with artists, audiences and communities. We are looking to connect with dancers who are curious, collaborative, versatile and committed to contemporary performance practice. 

We are seeking artists for a variety of engagements, including:

  • Permanent full-time company positions

  • Project-based contracts

While we will prioritise dancers who have lived or trained in Aotearoa New Zealand, we welcome applications from all artists who are eligible to live and work in New Zealand.



Who We're Looking For

We are interested in artists who:

  • Have experience working within collaborative and creative processes

  • Are adaptable, inquisitive and open to experimentation

  • Demonstrate strong contemporary dance technique and performance presence

  • Bring a commitment and rigour to ongoing artistic development

  • Value connection, exchange and collective practice

  • Align with Footnote New Zealand Dance’s vision, mission, and values

We welcome applications from dancers with diverse backgrounds, experiences and artistic perspectives.

 

Stage One: Online Application

Applicants are invited to submit:

  • A current CV 

  • A headshot

  • Links to recent performance and studio footage (maximum 10 minutes total)

  • A brief statement (up to 500 words) introducing your artistic practice and interest in working with Footnote

Stage Two: In-Person Audition

Selected applicants will be invited to attend an in-person 2 day workshop in either:

  • Auckland - 13th & 14th October

  • Wellington - 20th & 21st October

This will include contemporary technique, creative tasks, improvisation and repertory-based material.

If you are unable to attend the in-person audition we will consider an online process on a case by case basis. 

Stage Three: Interview 

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a final interview with Footnote's General Manager, Louise Jakeway, and Artistic Director, Anita Hunziker.
