Footnote New Zealand Dance appoints Brian Wood as General Manager

Known for his dedication to supporting the arts sector across many roles, Brian Wood will join Footnote New Zealand Dance in January 2022 as General Manager. 

Currently Acting Director at The New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata Brian brings a rich and varied set of skills and attributes to the position. He has a strong background in arts management and has led a team in the delivery of the inaugural Kiingi Tuheitia Portrait Award. He has curated and developed exhibitions and has delivered projects across many areas including marketing, fundraising, public programmes, and events.

While his career has mainly been in the visual arts sector Brian is a great supporter of contemporary dance and is looking forward to transitioning to the performing arts. He says: “I have always been extremely fond of contemporary dance and Footnote in particular. I have seen some memorable performances over the years so am thrilled to be offered this role, I actually did a little dance on the spot when I got the call to say I had landed the position.”

The Chair of the Footnote Dance Trust Board, Frank Freemantle, says “the Board and Footnote team are delighted about Brian bringing his expertise to the company. Brian's years of arts management experience will be a brilliant addition to the current management team and we are excited to work alongside him to continue Footnote’s legacy of supporting artists and sharing contemporary dance work across New Zealand communities.”
