Audition Notice - MODERN GOD 2026
Footnote New Zealand Dance is seeking online expressions of interest for a variety of roles in MODERN GOD by Jeremy Beck.
MODERN GOD is a high-powered show that straddles the realms of contemporary dance and physical theatre. Directed and choreographed by Jeremy Beck this work delves into the intricate web of global internet culture and the evolving complexities of the virtual world.
Performers must be available for the following dates:
Rehearsal in Pōneke Wellington: 20th April-8th May 2026 (3 weeks)
Performance season and NZ tour: 11th May-14th June 2026 (5 weeks)
Roles
We are looking for exceptional performers who are confident delivering scripted text live, learning repertoire and are strong creative movers. Understanding of short form content, proficient with technology and strong improvisational skills is desirable but not essential.
Benny aka Big Brain Benny
Benny is a male identifying character. He is Bluff’s self-proclaimed influencer. Bursting with confidence but hilariously naive, he models himself on the online personalities he idolises, mimicking their tone and tricks with zero actual following to back it up. From chasing every trend to desperately trying to “go viral,” Benny will do whatever it takes to be seen. His true love is music, and in his quest for fame he launches a segment where he “reveals” the hidden meanings behind famous songs. Fame is the only thing he’s chasing, and in his world, the truth is just another filter to play with.

Create or improvise a 30 second apology video for your followers.
Please also submit the following along with your application:
2 - 3 minute unedited video improvising in a way that shows your physical range and natural movement style.
Two page CV.
Heather
Heather is a female identifying character. She is a wellness influencer who presents herself as a trusting life guide. She appears warm, charismatic and calming, while she works to curate an aesthetic of effortless authenticity through soothing tones, spiritual language and soft gestures. A little on the eccentric side, she often conveys her own words as divine revelations, seeing herself as a modern day prophet. Heather blends sincerity with performance, always selling ‘healing’ while also relying on validation. She shares vulnerability and wisdom as if in service of others, yet everything is mediated through the lens of her brand.
